Annika Kilander

European Patent Attorney

Annika has worked at Brann since 2013 and previously served, among other roles, as Global Head of Patents for the Life Science division of GE Healthcare, now Cytiva. This experience has given her a strong background in the strategic use of intellectual property with a clear commercial perspective.

Annika specialises in life sciences, with particular experience in patent protection for inventions in protein chemistry and instruments for biotechnology applications. She has worked extensively in the Protein A field, including on the patent strategy for MabSelect®.

Annika also has experience in both offensive and defensive use of intellectual property rights to strengthen product exclusivity. She has, for example, worked on disputes in which several rights were used in parallel to defend the exclusivity of Biacore® in the United States and Europe, involving issues relating to patent and design rights as well as unfair marketing practices. She also has experience of employee inventor remuneration, including the development of relevant policies and the handling of disputes concerning reasonable compensation.
